ISLAMABAD (IRNA) -- Director of Al-Zahra Religious Complex Hojjatoleslam Mohammad-Javad Hafezi on Wednesday called on the U.S. not to regard Iran's nuclear activities narrow-mindedly.

Hojjatoleslam Hafezi told IRNA that freedom lovers throughout the world know quite well that the entire Iranian peaceful nuclear issue has been politicized by the U.S. and some western states and that's the outcome of the U.S. statesmen's selfishness and belligerency.

To a question by IRNA, Hojjatoleslam Hafezi said that the Americans want to take control of uranium enrichment worldwide and all pressures on Iran are profit-oriented.

He said all the U.S. rulers should take lessons from the collapse of the former Soviet Union and 'today, we are going to send the late Imam Khomeini's auspicious letter to Gorbachev, which was an invitation to monotheism and piety, to Mr. Bush too'.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Hojjatoleslam Hafezi criticized double- standards on nuclear energy.

"How can the US and the usurper regime of Israel, which have themselves had a role in proliferation of nuclear weapons, sanction others?" asked the cleric.
